December Member Spotlight – Jennifer McClaflin

Do you remember your first WOD? What did you think on that first day?

Yes.  It was in boot camp and when we repeated the WOD at the end of boot camp and I had improved, I was hooked and knew that the “competition-with-yourself” aspect of CrossFit would keep me interested and pushing myself.

 What kind of results have you experienced since starting CrossFit? 

I feel so much stronger in my upper body.  Also, I referee basketball and can definitely tell the difference in my endurance since I started doing Crossfit. 

What has been your biggest accomplishment since starting at CrossFit Confidence? 

That is hard to narrow down . . . it seems I keep accomplishing things I never would have thought I could possibly do.  I am probably most proud of competing in Friday Night Lights and the April (individual) & October (partner w/Lori Abfalter) Festivus games and placing second in both Festivus games. 

 What has CrossFit changed about your life?   

CrossFit has made me feel like an “athlete” again.  I played multiple sports in high school and love to compete, but as an adult I had gotten away from sports/exercising.  I definitely have more energy and stamina.  I also feel a little more badass because I feel stronger and feel like I could defend myself if I had to!

What is one goal that you are currently working on? 

Double-unders continue to be my kryptonite! 

What motivates you/keeps you coming back? 

How great I feel and always wanting to do better than I did the last time.

What is your favorite benchmark WOD? 

Incredible Hulk!!

Least favorite? 

I have liked all of them we have done, so not sure I have a least favorite.

Do you have a favorite song to work out to? 

Not really . . . most of the time I am so focused on the workout that the music is just background noise.

What would you say to someone who is new or considering starting CrossFit? 

I would say that they definitely should give it a try.  Even though it seems tough and intimidating, it is so rewarding when you continue to see improvement and feel better.  You will probably find out that you can accomplish things you never would have thought were possible!!

What are some of your interests outside of CrossFit? 

Watching my daughter play basketball, softball and soccer, playing with my dogs, reading, gardening, watching Minnesota Lynx & Vikings and spending time with friends.

What do you do for a living? 

Legal assistant.

What cereal cartoon character do you identify with the most? Why? 

Cocoa Puffs’ Sonny the Cuckoo Bird because I always feel like I am going cuckoo trying to get everything done that I have to do each day!
