August Member Spotlight – Jarod “Jake” Jacobs

Do you remember your first WOD? What did you think on that first day?
I don’t remember the WOD, but just being nervous about what I was getting into.  I had just come off a knee clean-up (meniscus) plus I have an arthritic hip – and didn’t know if I would hold up.
Everything was new to me as a workout, I had lifted since high school on and off … but never a workout like this.  I didn’t die!  So that was good.

What kind of results have you experienced since starting CrossFit?
Increased strength!  All movements have improved a lot.
I need to keep working technique, but overall I am very happy with my gains.

What has been your biggest accomplishment since starting at CrossFit Confidence?
Not dying!

What has CrossFit changed about your life?
I can do more with my kids, who are both very active in sports.
Everything in just day to day life is easier, better!

What is one goal that you are currently working on?
200lbs over my head!
Don’t care if it is a push press, split jerk … 200lbs over my head!

What motivates you/keeps you coming back?
To not die! 😉
To keep improving my overall health!

What is your favorite benchmark WOD?
I don’t think I have a favorite.

Do you have a favorite song to work out to?
Hairbands – GnR, Poison, etc …

What would you say to someone who is new or considering starting CrossFit?
Anybody can do it, it isn’t a competition with others in the classes … it’s about competing against yourself and improving YOU!
But, I like trying to keep up to others that are stronger and faster – using them as motivation!

What are some of your interests outside of CrossFit?
Family!  My two girls and Becky.
Hunting, fishing and being outside.

What do you do for a living?
Sr Product Product Manager for Absolute Outdoor.
I develop new products for the hunting brand we own – ArcticShield.

What cereal cartoon character do you identify with the most? Why?
Snap, Crackle and Pop (Rice Krispies) – because that is what my joints sound like!
